Expert consumer advice on heating and heat pumps, straight from the source

Who we are

Our mission

As installers, gas engineers, and small business owners, we speak to people every day about the choices that will impact their home.

That’s why we’ve formed the Heating Trades Network. Our mission is to provide the British public with reliable, unbiased advice on the future of home heating and cooling.

When choosing the heating and cooling system which works best for them, we know home and business owners want clarity and confidence. What will provide the most value for their energy bills, and their financial security.

In our experience, heat pumps are the best choice for the vast majority of Brits. They’re the smart investment for value, security, and comfort.

Every home in Britain is different, so there is no one-size-fits-all approach to upgrading your boiler. Consumers want to know the facts, and learn from the experiences of expert professionals and heat pump owners.

Our country-wide network of accredited installers is best placed to cut through the noise and get the best for consumers.

We’re always looking to work with people that want to add their voice: installers, media, partners, and anyone with stories about home heating should all get in touch.

Get the facts

What is a heat pump?

Simply put: heat pumps use an electric fan to transfer warmth in the air outside and use it to heat up buildings on the inside... There is warmth in even the coldest air, and heat pumps are incredibly efficient at using it.

The technology is already in our fridges, and the AC in our cars, but in reverse! They look like any outdoor air conditioning unit you walk past every day.

Every home is different. We always advise people to chat with an accredited heat pump installer before making a decision about their future.

In our experience, heat pumps are the smart investment for value, security, and comfort when choosing to upgrade your boiler.

Value

Heat pumps can unlock affordable, efficient home heating for the long-term, without sacrificing on comfort or costs. Once installed, a heat pump can run for around 20 years. That’s twice as long as a typical gas boiler.

And thankfully, the government is stepping up to make it even easier for you to upgrade: offering people up to £7,500 to cover the cost of installation.

More funding is being made available due to overwhelming demand, grants for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme have tripled since last year, with 2024 set to be a record breaking year for applications.

Even better, more people are choosing special heat pump tariffs available from a growing number of energy providers.

67% of heat pump owners are satisfied with running costs, compared to 59% of gas boiler users.

Security

Heat pumps run on electricity. That means you could say goodbye to gas, and goodbye to paying two separate monthly energy bills.

Plus, you’re protected from unpredictable fossil price shocks outside of your control, like those that greatly contributed to the cost-of-living crisis.

Almost 60,000 people have already received funding from the government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), and everyone knows that boilers are on their way out. People are securing their future with a heat pump installation.

Comfort

Heat pumps work in all kinds of weather, and all kinds of buildings.

And they're taking off in Britain: from Victorian houses, to mid-century and modern homes, from schools and elderly care homes in Orkney, to entire communities in Cornwall. You can check whether a heat pump is suitable for you here.

Heat pumps provide the comfort and warmth you expect, while producing three to five times more energy efficiency.

Lastly, they’re quiet, producing about as much noise as a typical gas boiler.

73% of heat pump owners are at least as satisfied with their heat pump compared to their previous heating system.
